What is Conformal Cooling?

Conformal cooling or heat control technology involves creating appropriate control channels in the thickness of the mould to optimise cooling of the material.

These potentially complex or awkward control channels convey a coolant (water or oil) to

    • control the mould's thermal envelope
    • and reduce hot spots in the mould, which are sources of internal weakness in the final part.

The injected polymer is therefore cooled more rapidly and more homogeneously through the entire impression.

In certain parts, DPH uses metal 3D printing by laser fusion, or additive manufacturing, to apply conformal cooling.

Additive manufacturing offers greater design freedom and tools with optimised properties.

Conformal cooling advantages:

Reduces the cycle time for large parts, with optimised cooling

Increases tool reliability by making it easy for the process to be repeated

Guarantees quality and robustness (mechanical properties) over time.

Improves the aesthetics and appearance quality of plastic parts, by avoiding sink marks
